Mike is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Member of the Australasian Institute of Risk Management.
His relevant tertiary qualifications include a Master of Defence Studies (UNSW).

Mike is a security risk consultant specialising in strategic security planning, risk management and security training.
ExperienceMike has more than 33 years experience in the public and private sectors, with expertise in the areas of intelligence, security, information operations, strategic analysis, policy development, training and diplomacy. He is an expert in the intelligence process and its application to support business and government strategic requirements.
During the last 12 years, Mike has provided the full range of Intelligent Outcomes consulting services to government (Commonwealth and state governments in Australia and a range of governments throughout the Asia - Pacific region) and a diverse range of private sector clients. Some of the more significant risk management activities are outlined below.
Mike was engaged by Sydney Airports to undertake a security threat and risk assessment of the airport in the lead up to the Sydney Olympics in 2000. He was also involved in the preparation of similar assessments for Melbourne and La Trobe Airports in Victoria, Bali Airport in Indonesia, and recently completed wide ranging security risk assessment related work for Dili Airport in East Timor.
In early 2006,Mike undertook the development of a counter terrorism strategy for the City of Sydney and a security threat and risk assessment for the malls and open spaces within the Sydney CBD.
Mike developed International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code security assessments and port security plans for Sydney Ports Corporation, and port facility assessments and plans for most maritime stakeholders in the Port of Sydney, and the Port of Melbourne. He has developed and delivered a wide range of relevant security risk assessment courses in the Philippines, Indonesia and PNG, and throughout Australia. He has also developed national level transport threat and risk assessments for the PNG and Philippines Governments, and has taken part in discussions with governments throughout the Asia - Pacific region on building national ISPS-related counter terrorism structures and procedures. He currently delivers the DFAT Overseas Security Awareness Course in Canberra with his colleagues Wal Brewer and Ian Brown.
Mike has conducted hundreds of security risk assessments ranging from high level counter terrorist assessments for the City of Sydney and the New South Wales Government to departmental and single business security assessments. He has just finished (July 2009) providing counter terrorist risk assessments and training to government and stakeholders in the transport sector in the Philippines and Indonesia.
Mike led the team that developed the NSW Government Critical Infrastructure Review Group Risk Assessment Methodology, and the Critical Infrastructure Risk Manager (CIRM) tool now in use with many state and Commonwealth critical infrastructure organisations. He was instrumental in conducting all sector workshops to obtain critical infrastructure personnel input to that process.
He has used his extensive experience in security risk assessment to lead the company in developing two additional risk assessment tools: Risktrack (used by the Victorian Government to undertake high level assessments for the Commonwealth Games); and Scuta™ (our current risk assessment tool) which is being well received.
Knowledge of the Asia-Pacific RegionHe has an extensive knowledge of Asia-Pacific region, and has lived and worked throughout the region. He travels to the wider region on a regular basis to undertake work on behalf of governments and private sector clients.
Mike has provided the full range of Intelligent Outcomes consulting services to government and a wide range of private sector clients throughout this region. He has developed and is delivering ISPS Code Security Courses, Audit Courses, and Verification Courses in the Philippines and PNG, and Maritime Transport and Offshore Facility Security Act/ISPS Verification Courses in Australia for the then Commonwealth regulator DOTARS. He has also developed national level counter-terrorist assessments for the PNG Government, and has taken part in discussions with APEC governments throughout the Asia-Pacific region on building national ISPS-related structures and procedures.
Mike is required to maintain a high level of understanding and awareness of security issues and events that have the potential to impact client operations in the Asia – Pacific region.
OtherMike has an extensive strategic and operational security and intelligence background which enables him to provide quality security advice based on personal learning and experience. As Managing Director of Intelligent Outcomes, Mike is a key adviser to senior business leaders and government officials in Australia and the wider Asia - Pacific region.
Mike continues to maintain his own awareness of international security and intelligence issues and has taken a professional interest in global terrorism, its potential impact on all of the above sectors and what can be done to counter it.
